Webster University’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts Presents the Ingenious Musical “Hello Again”
Event on 2012-02-22 19:30:00
Webster University’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts presents “Hello Again" with music, lyrics and book by John LaChiusa and based on the 1897 play "La Ronde" by Arthur Schnitzler. The production runs from Feb. 15-19 and Feb. 22-26, in the Emerson Studio Theatre, 130 Edgar Road. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m., except Sundays, which presents 2 p.m. matinees only. Admission is for the general public and for senior adults and students. For ticket reservations, call the Fine Arts Hotline at 968-7128.
"Hello Again" is an ingenious musical consisting of vignettes exploring the passion and power of 10 love affairs, one from each decade of the 20th Century. Witness the Whore, the Young Thing, the Senator, the Soldier and others as they navigate each new sexual entanglement. Love and desire clash as each character seeks elusive connections. Five-time Tony Award nominee LaChiusa brings Schnitzler's controversial love stories to life with musical and lyrical styles of each decade, ranging from opera to jazz to disco. "Hello Again" is a study of American mores in the 20th century, though the play crosses the boundaries of time and space.
The musical was first produced off-Broadway in 1993. Since then it has been performed in London, Sweden, Australia, Germany, and New York.
Hello Again is directed by Visiting Guest Director David Caldwell.
Due to adult themes and situations, this show is intended for mature audiences only.

Event on 2012-03-10 20:00:00
The LJO will perform its homage to J.J. Johnson, one of the leading jazz musicians of the post-swing era. Regarded as one of the first trombonists to embrace bebop music, J.J. Johnson was a key player and innovator in this definitive style. Collaborating with jazz greats including Dizzy and Miles, Johnson blazed a path for himself in the bebop movement doing for the trombone what Charlie Parker did for the saxophone.

Regular cabs will not travel to the Pittsburgh Hill District of the 1970s, and so the residents turn to each other. Jitney dramatizes the lives of men hustling to make a living as jitneys–unofficial, unlicensed taxi cab drivers. The son of Becker, the boss (played by Roscoe Orman, Gordon of famed "Sesame Street") returns from prison, adding to the tension in the jitney station along with the city's plan to close down the businesses in the Hill District. What makes this play remarkable is not the plot; Jitney is Wilson at his most real–the words these men use and the stories they tell form a true slice of life.
