As Cannes Film Festival Kicks off Abroad, America’s Hot New Teen Musical ‘In Your Dreams’ Invites Animation Proposals From Independent Film Producers Here At Home
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 18, 2006
As all eyes in the movie industry are turning to the Cannes Film Festival in France, the producers of the hot new teen musical “In Your Dreams” issued a statement today inviting the world’s independent film industry to tune in to their home-grown music and submit proposals for a potential animation project to be completed in the U.S. http://myspace.com/inyourdreamsthemusical
“Admittedly, it is a seller’s market at the Cannes Film Festival this year as a plethora of American buyers prepare to scour for possible gems,” says Zeke Farrow, the Miramax-linked creator of America’s hottest new teen musical, “In Your Dreams,” the underdog contender that is taking on Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” in a hotly fought battle for the $ 170 billion teen entertainment market. “But the film industry should not forget that there are plenty of gems right here at home.”
According to Farrow, while there are always plenty of exciting world-class films on view at Cannes, there are precious few commercial titles to buy. “At this year’s festival, which began last night with the world premiere of ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ most of the must-see titles already have distributors,” says Farrow. “And that’s not yet true of our hot new teen musical ‘In Your Dreams.’”
Indeed, Farrow admits that the rapidly burgeoning ranks of U.S. distributors at Cannes can expect to see many films that they like but few that they can responsibly acquire, especially given stateside audiences’ current aversion to foreign-language fare. “Unlike those films,” says Farrow, “our hot new teen musical, ‘In Your Dreams,’ was written in English, and our focus groups have told us that the use of this particular language, in many instances, enhances their viewing pleasure.”
In a year where major entertainment channel launches have been announced from Inner Tube to MSN to My Network TV — and not to mention webisode contenders by numerous animation outsiders — Farrow is confident his musical can find a home with a major, “big-buck” producer.
“We have a meeting scheduled for June with Dual Star Entertainment, which is the management company for teen stars Ashley Olsen and Mary Kate Olsen, and also for the Sprouse twins,” says Farrow. “The Olsen Twins would be great for either a live feature or an animated film. What people forget is that the Olsen Twins can sing, and in fact, they actually have a number of music CDs that have gone multi-platinum. So we are awaiting this meeting with much anticipation and confidence. Something always seems to pop up out of nowhere.”
Farrow adds that Sarah Jessica Parker’s Pretty Matches production company, which has a two-year production agreement with HBO, is still a contender for production rights. “Sarah Jessica was a child star herself, and there is a feeling in the New York entertainment community in which she is a leading light that the recent ‘slut glut’ on television may soon turn into an embarrassment of riches.”
But Farrow is open to smaller projects as well, from animation experts or even advertising agencies who are interested in animating any or all of the 13 songs that have already been recorded by Broadway stars on the “In Your Dreams” CD for their own purposes. “We have a song called ‘I Was Born To Reign’ which would be perfect for someone to animate as a spoof on Hilary Clinton’s rumored run for the presidency,” says Farrow. “And if you listen to it, you will see what I mean.” http://myspace.com/inyourdreamsthemusical
At Cannes, says Farrow, the likely outcome of this screening frenzy is that distributors with full release slates will resist the temptation to overpay, while hungrier firms with something to prove will shell out the big bucks. “Our film can probably be made right here in New York for under $ 5 million,” Farrow admonishes the movie industry. “So don’t go spending all your money on escargots.”
Movie studios that are vying for Cannes gold include Columbia Pictures, which is launching Sofia Coppola’s revisionist take on “Marie-Antoinette,” starring Kirsten Dunst in 18th century corsets; Sony Pictures Classics, which is introducing Pedro Almodovar’s dramatic “Volver,” starring Penelope Cruz in a role inspired by Anna Magnani; Paramount is debuting Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “Babel,” starring Brad Pitt; and Al Gore’s global warming documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” In addition Picturehouse will show Guillermo del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth”; Lionsgate will show William Friedkin’s creepy thriller “Bug,” Fox Searchlight has Richard Linklater’s controversial “Fast Food Nation;” and Warner Independent Pictures will show Linklater’s animated adaptation of the Philip K. Dick sci-fi noir “A Scanner Darkly.”
Unlike the Cannes Film Festival, which is a film festival, “In Your Dreams” is a large-scale, splashy, teen musical –- with just a dash of political satire. It centers around Helen, a seventeen-year-old girl who appears in three different incarnations: Black, Pink, and Blue.
What is helping to fuel the “In Your Dreams Express,” according to Farrow, are its 13 ingeniously lyrical songs, performed by a number of top Broadway singers, including “Trailer Park’s” Drama Desk-nominated Leslie Kritzer, “Wicked’s” Laura Bell Bundy, “Les Miserable’s” Jodie Langel, “Little Shop of Horror’s” Kerry Butler, “Thoroughly Modern Millie’s” Gavin Creel, “Hairspray’s” Jackie Hoffman, “The Full Monty’s” Sloan Just, and Anika Larsen, Danny Rocket and Anthony Rapp from “Rent.” Rhythm and blues artist Shayna Steele is also a contributor.
The stage version of “In Your Dreams” will see a showcase production at Ars Nova, the famed Manhattan performance incubator, later this summer, says Farrow. http://broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=9263
Among those in the motion picture industry with a growing awareness of the significant market value that a theater-distributed rival to Disney’s cable-based “High School Musical” has to offer are Chris Meledandri; Joss Wedon; Ryan Kavanaugh of Gun Hill Road; Thomas Tull and Scott Mednick of Legendary Pictures; Stephen Quinn; Steve Bratspies; Roy Spence; Polly Cohen; Mark Gill; Jeff Robinov; Sasha Alpert; Bunim Murray; Oliver Obst; Melrose Investors; Bob Osher; Steve Bing; Jeff Skoll; Tom Jacobson; Nathan Lane; Marc Platt; Gus Gustawes; Kenny Miller; David Brookwell; Sean McNamara; MarVista; Matt Dearborn; Michael D. Jacobs; Fernando Szew; Paul Federbush; Andrea Arnold; Hal Lieberman; Ed Begley Jr.; Daniel Battsek; TalkStory Productions; Brookwell McNamara Entertainment; Ray Lawrence; Richard Kelly; Ben Silverman and Reveille Studios; USA Entertainment; Gayle Troberman and Rob Bennett at MSN; and Vanessa Taylor at Pretty Matches Productions, which is currently producing “The Washingtonienne,” a sit-com for HBO about a Senatorial intern who discusses product placement opportunities with a Washington Insider during her lunch break.
The $ 170 billion teen and tween entertainment market continues to be a major focus this spring for a number of content providers. For example, over the course of its twelve airings (January 20-April 21, 2006), Disney Channel’s break-into-song “High School Musical” reached 36.5 million unique total viewers (persons 2+), 20.1 million households, 10.3 million kids 6-11 and 11.1 million tweens 9-14. The premiere of “High School Musical” delivered the highest ever household ratings for Disney Channel original programming. Traffic to DisneyChannel.com surged with the premiere of “High School Musical.” Within a 24-hour period after its January 20 premiere, 1.2 million unique visitors logged on to DisneyChannel.com — the most ever for the site.

Anne McCue Gets Help on New Album, ‘Koala Motel,’ from Friends Lucinda Williams, John Doe, Jim Lauderdale, Heart’s Nancy Wilson and Producer Dusty Wakeman
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (PRWEB) June 29, 2006
Anne McCue’s second album for Messenger Records, which follows 2004’s enthusiastically received Roll, represents an extraordinary leap made by an already impressive talent. It goes beyond affecting songs and inspired playing and singing, and creates its own world.
Due out September 19, the album is once again co-produced by Dusty Wakeman (Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yoakam) and McCue at mad Dog Studios in Burbank. Koala Motel finds the Australian-born, Los Angeles-based writer/singer/guitarist surrounded by the estimable rhythm section of bassist Wakeman and drummer Dave Raven, with keyboardist Carl Byron completing the lineup. This group effort from four simpatico musicians is further enhanced by strategic vocal contributions from Lucinda Williams, John Doe, Jim Lauderdale and Heart’s Nancy Wilson (who also plays mandolin on one track.)
McCue, who grew up in Sydney and has a degree in film production and film studies, expresses great admiration for the movies of Ang Lee, Quentin Tarantino and Sergio Leone. Koala Motel’s opening track is in the film noir style, and the final (title) track moves more toward the style of a Spaghetti Western theme. The recording is an intricate ensemble piece of another kind.
“The four of us have been working as a unit for the last two years,” McCue points out, “and we’ve become really close, musically and personally. We recorded this album as a band. Dave and Dusty are both from Texas, and I’ve come to realize Texans and Australians are very similar. Being part of such a great band is like a dream.”
McCue has assimilated certain vintage sounds into her own style, here employing them as subtle and complementary reference points. There are echoes of The Doors’ L.A. Woman (“Driving Down Alvarado,” with John Doe riding shotgun), Tupelo Honey-era Van Morrison (“Hellfire Raiser,” to which Lucinda brings an inspired degree of nuance) and the classic Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris duets (“Shivers,” with Lauderdale providing the chorus harmonies.) The lone non-original among these dozen songs is Tony Joe White’s 1972 swamp-rocker, “As The Crow Flies,” which showcases the band’s rarefied command of deep gut groove.
The media has taken note of McCue since 2002’s Roll album. Rolling Stone noted that “McCue wields potent bluesy rock against her unaffected, naturally wistful voice.” Billboard called her a “triple threat: a potent singer, thoughtful songwriter and tough guitarist (who) completely comes into her own on this project.” The L.A. Weekly cited McCue’s “poignantly plaintive voice and multi-ranged guitar chops that swing from tasty Delta blues to stinging slide chordings to fat feedbacked riffs.” And Entertainment Weekly summed it up: “McCue is forging a unique voice.”
With the appearance of Koala Motel, there is no longer any question that we’re witnessing the maturation of an important new artist, in real time. Anne McCue’s voice is one we need to hear.

KHOJ International Artists’ Association presents Peers 2011 from June 17, 2011
KHOJ International Artists’ Association presents Peers 2011 from June 17, 2011
Event on 2011-10-17 11:30:00
New Delhi: KHOJ International Artists’ Association presents Peers 2011 – art works created by 5 recent graduates from art/ architecture/design institutions from all over India. The selected artists have worked in a month-long residency programme at Khoj Studios and will show their work from June 17, 2011 to June 19, 2011
Initiated in 2003, with support from the IFA (India Foundation for the Arts), Peers is an annual education and outreach residency programme that brings together five recent graduates from art institutions all over India. For four weeks, these young artists shed the expectations and rigidity of a structured curriculum, working together in a discursive space that stresses the role of free experimentation and risk-taking in art practice.
The selected students of Peers 2011 residency programme include : Aarti Sunder (Academy of Fine Arts and Craft, Rachana Sansad, Mumbai), Kundo Yumnam (NIFT, New Delhi), Maripelly Praveen Goud (Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda), Muthiah Kasi (D J Academy of Design, Coimbatore) and Pallavi Singh (College of Art, New Delhi). Apart from the students in residency, the critic – in residence, Aparna Singh (Visva-Bharati, Shantiniketan) would actively engage with the practitioners and work on a well-research paper that contextualizes and critically examines the Peers projects.
Says Pooja Sood, Director, KHOJ International Artists’ Association: “Ever since its inception, the Peers residency has become one of the most important programmes at Khoj.Khoj provides digital laboratories, extensive research archives and the opportunity to engage with a larger artists’ community, some of whom participate in a mentor’s role during the residency. Visits to artists’ studios, gallery exhibitions and other events in Delhi are organized during the course of the residency. The Peers artists are encouraged to move out of the physical environs of the studios and explore the area and its community”.
With the commercial boom in the art market, many students were absorbed directly into the gallery system right out of college. Without the structure and security of the institution and faced with the immense challenges that the professional art scene poses, the practice of many young artists runs the risk of falling prey to predictability brought on by the vagaries of the art market. Khoj fills the essential vacuum between the structured environment of an art school and the rigors of the professional art scene. At the residency, artists are encouraged to shed the inhibitions and step outside of their usual art practice, innovate and experiment with new forms of art making, which they may not otherwise have the time nor space to do. The importance of peer to peer learning through interactions and exchange cannot be underestimated. Five practitioners bring together varied experiences of their background, place and practice. Students from established centres of art practice interact with talented artists from smaller towns; trained painters meet cartoonists, amateur film makers, architects…. all of which results in a potent environment for exciting new art practices to emerge!
Artist Aarti Sunder is creating a series of characters with the help of installation and drawing as a part of the series. Aarti’s work is site specific, the artist is correlating the plain walls in the studio at KHOJ in every drawing. The artist regards working with real space as a big challenger for her. “How to use the real space and how to make it a part of the work. How to relate the real object with the idea, without losing its existence”, she says. Aarti’s sketches can be seen as a part of exploring every aspect of the studio space.
On the other hand, Kundo Yumnam plays with the space and atmosphere in the room. The artist's interactive project deals with censorship and curiosity. By creating a Pandora’s box, the artist delves into the world of curiosity and censorship. Pandora – a box that contains all the evils of the world. The viewer would be left with an option to open the mystical Pandora box or not depending upon his level of curiosity.
Artist Pallavi Singh deals with the intricacies in the mind of a male aged between 40 to 60. The mind set, the desires, the sexual thoughts and dilemmas forms the focal point in the artist’s work. Pallavi shows the contrast between the actions and the inner desires of a male. The actions are symbolized in the form of photographs while the desires are symbolized with the help of negatives.
Muthiah Kasi experiments his thought process through wood block paintings. In the project, Muthiah deals with the monotonous life and dreams. The artist has symbolized monotony with a machine has hence shows how in this commercialized world, we are moving away from our dreams. The artist represents this process with paintings and installations.
Like his peers, artist Praveen Goud also explores the power of the sub-conscious mind. The artist plays with an offset printer grid paper by twisting, twirling it into different shapes and forms depending upon the mind frame of the user. Goud deliberately uses the grid paper to show ups, downs, depth and volume of a form. The mindset here not only explains the destructive nature of a human mind but also introduces the audience to the constructive mind with the help of an installation created by the artist with these shapes and forms of the crushed paper glued together.
Since 2003, many Peers alumni have gone on to win prestigious awards; they have been invited by established galleries to participate in important exhibitions; but most of all they have achieved an imperative leap in their own individual practice- which is after all the most important factor for an artist.
Participants are invited through an open call for applications, the last date for which is usually end- February/ early March. From almost 100 applications, 5 artists and 1 critic in residence are chosen. The selection process is based on bringing together a diverse group of practitioners, both in terms of art background (previous Peers have included painters, print makers, film makers, architects from institutions as well as amateurs who display exceptional talent) as well as from cities and towns all over India.

Recipes from your Friendly Vampire – Try These Elixer-ating Beverages at Your Halloween Party
Recipes from your Friendly Vampire – Try These Elixer-ating Beverages at Your Halloween Party
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) September 11, 2004
As night falls upon any city, patrons are drawn to pubs and clubs in search of a way to quench their unyielding thirst similar to the vampires whom have been roaming our streets for thousands of years.
Only the finest spirits, wines and non-alcoholic beverages aimed to please the palates of distinguished guests (both the dead and undead) are available through Transylvania Imports and Vamp N.R.G. Over time a pure, triple distilled Vampyre Vodka originated a succulent red colour with a silky flavor like no other top-shelf vodka. Vampyre VodkaÂs ancient recipe is the essential choice for dedicated vodka drinkers around the world. Triple distilled in England by G&J Greenall, the distillers of many prestigious spirits, Vampyre Vodka stands above its competition, offering patrons wickedly smooth, red coloured vodka with the viscosity so great that is seems to cling to a Martini glass. ItÂs a great treat for guests at any Halloween Party.
Also stock up on Vampire wines, imported from Transylvania. Since 1995, sales have grown tremendously and what was once viewed as an oddity has now become a perennial best seller. Today, Vampire Wines are sold in the United States, Canada, The Netherlands, Slovakia and Romania. The Nielson Reports confirm that Vampire Wine outsell all other imported wines in supermarkets during the month of October. There is no other brand in the world that competes with Vampire Wines. Transylvania Imports has carved its own niche in a highly competitive industry.
Vampire wine is now the top grossing Eastern European wine in the United States. The Vineyards literally are in beautiful Transylvania, not far from Romania’s second largest city, Timosara, where today there is a pronounced Italian influence. As the leading wine from Eastern Europe, enthusiasts enjoy the crisp taste of the Vampire Pinot Grigio, which picked up a gold medal at the Long Beach Grand Cru and consistently outperforms the Italian Pinot Grigio that costs twice the price. The light and fruity Vampire Merlot is of course, the company’s best selling wine. The Vampire Cabernet is the winemaker’s favorite, and the Vampire Pinot Noir is the owner, Michael Machat’s favorite.
Mr. Machat is fond of saying, “There is no where else in the world is it possible to get such a good pinot noir at the price one can buy our Vampire Pinot Noir.Â
Equally surprising is the Vampire Chardonnay, which is made in the French style with an abundant fruit flavor and an accent of oak.
Vamp N.R.G. is another new addition to the Vampire family, and it is quickly becoming a hit with people of all ages. Nationally distributed at 7-Eleven stores, finally there is an energy drink that tastes good enough to have with a meal. Vamp N.R.G. is truly the best tasting energy drink around. (It actually tastes good!)
In order to make sure the children do not get left behind while their parents enjoy Vampire beverages, Transylvania Imports has developed a red cola, Dracola, fortified with vitamins A, B6, B12 and C. In fact, there is more vitamin C in a bottle of Dracola than in a typical glass of orange juice.
Loved by children the world over for its exquisite red cola flavor and by parents for its essential vitamins, this gourmet soft drink will please both mortal and immortal alike. Join the children of the night, and experience the awakening that only a revolutionary red cola offers.
The following recipes are favorites for any special occasion:

New York: Galleria on Third will celebrates it 9th benefit art exhibit with From the Heart… an event supporting Smile Train and will feature the art work of Shadin Hossain. The exhibit will begin on Monday, July 25th, with an opening night reception on Thursday, July 28, 2011 (6:30-9PM) at Galleria on Third (529 Third Ave). Tickets are free to attend the exhibit and opening night celebration.
Galleria on Third began hosting benefit art shows six years ago in response to a news piece that featured young African children who were dying due to starvation and disease. The owner of the gallery, Shadin Hossain, felt a call to action and the next day started planning the very first Galleria on Third Benefit Art Show, with monies raised going to World Vision. The following events benefited Smile Train, Bellevue Hospital, World Vision’s Clean Water Initiative, and many others. The shows featured upcoming artists as well as better known names including Romero Brito, DeLaVega, Sandy Kenyon, Carson Kressley and Marc Tetro, all who dedicated their time and talents in the hopes of supporting the fantastic causes, Galleria on Third and Shadin.
What makes this event special is that it will feature the work of Shadin Hossain, master framer, turned artist. His colorful work is a vibrant blend of pop and folk art. It is unique in style and scope. Because, he created the Benefit Art Show Series out of a genuine need to help, it is only appropriate that this exhibit be called From the Heart… (looking closely at the pieces, you will find hearts in almost all the pieces as a reminder of why he creates his art).
About the Artist
At the age of 17, Shadin Hossain migrated from Bangladesh to New York City. He arrived without knowledge of the culture or the language, and was thrilled to be employed in any job that would have him, from delivering pizzas to cleaning stores after hours, as long as he was working he felt blessed. After many years he landed a job that would soon become his career, he was hired by a small framing shop. Art has always been lifetime hobby when he was in Bangladesh, but working in NY left little time to work on his craft, but his enthusiasm for art was a determining factor in his success at the framing shop, and he truly exceled beyond expectations. Learning a trade and offering first rate customer service coupled with a series of fortunate events allowed Shadin to follow his American dream and open his own farming gallery.
For the past twelve years Galleria on Third has established a superb reputation for its museum quality framing (as seen with google.com’s highest rating of any framing shop in the tri – state area). Slowly but surely he moved from just offering the highest quality framing in the New York to selling original art and curating art exhibits. Shadin and Galleria on Third has sponsored eight previous benefit art exhibitions, partnering with World Vision and The Smile Train he has raised money for children in need in New York and around the world.
After years of advising and framing other artist’s work, Shadin has finally returned to his youthful passion and is creating his own original art work. He has developed a process that transforms fine art prints into sophisticated three dimensional designs that have been received by his patrons with great enthusiasm. He continues to develop mixed –medium pieces that are eye-popping, unique, and whimsical that truly encapsulates his sense of charity and generosity.
From the Heart… begins Monday, July 25 and opens on Thursday, July 28 with a FREE cocktail reception from 6:30-9PM, and will run through September 2011. Galleria on Third is located at 529 3rd Avenue between 35th and 36th streets), New York, NY, 10016.
